First Week of Flipping

I started the flipped classroom last week. I think things went fairly well.  I like lists and bullet items so I will use that to let you know what happened.
Things that I am concerned about.

  • Students didn't watch the videos.  I am trying an accountability method called 3PQ.  They need to give me 3 points and a question about the video that  they were supposed to watch.  At this point I am not grading these.  I will reference them if there are questions about why their grades are low.  Today, we used paper and pen, but in the future I will probably have them send me a post on Edmodo.  Some students are having difficulties accessing the videos.  Apparently there is a bug with Apple products.  I have encouraged them to come in and watch the videos when they have free time during the day or have me meet them at the school to watch the videos.  I am trying to eliminate excuses.
Things that I am pleased about
  • I have a voice at the end of the day.  When I lectured all day, my voice was shot by the end of the day.
  • We can do more hands-on activities.
  • Students are more engaged in class
Tomorrow is the test over the first unit.  Judging from how they have responded, I am hopeful for good results.  It will be flippin' awesome!!!!
